Perhaps it borders on the churlish to add further to this thread, that and in my opinion, the Police buckle which started this thread is a post 1945 fantasy item. The metal employed, the method of construction and the claw with pin shroud arrangement, simply do not make sense. Having said that though, we have in the past and on more than one occasion, discussed indisputably original buckles which "do not make sense".

Some years ago a fake Police buckle with a separate four tab roundel was doing the rounds. Attached is an image of the same buckle and my apologies that it has a low resolution.

Initially I thought that the roundel to the buckle which started this thread and the one that I have shown, were the same. Now with a closer "side by side" scrutiny I think not so, however it is a potentially dangerous method of assessment when looking at digital images of a differing resolution and which have been taken at differing angles.

It matters not as I still think the opening buckle here is a fantasy item.
