    Hello everyone,

I have this wound badge which seems to have been worn alot and because of that a yellowish colour is visible.
A similar colour was on other wound badges I have seen online and they wrote the term "Buntmetall".
Does that change anything about the rarity/help identify the maker? (I did not find any maker marks on the back side of the helmet)

    Thank you in advance,
    John

Buntmetall another word for tombak a brass alloy used in the production of early TR awards until it was required for more important war production. Then most manufacturers went over to zinc for their awards. Yours looks a nice early BWB. Regards Paul

    Thank you for the information.

I bought this one in a grouping, including documents but sadly the one for this wound badge is missing.
Then I can presume he was awarded this one during the first years of the war?

Possibly, it would also depend on what was still in stock at any given time.

Looks like I may have led you astray with the buntmetall meaning, it does of course refer to any non ferrous metal not only tombak, sorry for the confusion, Paul

I tend to think (rightly or wrongly) of buntmetal being a generic term for anything that's not zinc.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

No problem, thank you for the clarification.
