some seem to have a dull/subdued type of paint and some seem to have a high gloss almost enamel type of paint. am I the only one who seems to see this on them? I may be seeing things that are not there.

And what indicates this one as a Wiedmann/Deschler design?
I do not see a lily pad hinge plate or a round catch plate.
    Ralph.
    Hi Ralph,

It's nothing to do with the hardware, this design is attributed to Deschler as it's unique compared to other designs as noted by the slim ribbon bow and to a lesser extent the thick barley twist sword grips that make it rather individual.

    Regards, Ned.

Ned you have a great deal of time on your hands 😉

You are a great wealth of knowledge to dissect a piece to this degree.
