The Hermann Aurich PAB was based on the Type I family and produced only in zink.
The bronze grade is rarely seen with most, if not all, of the original coat intact; the mint silver ones are widely available though (partly due to the hoard find of unissued boxed pieces some years ago).
FRONTAL COMPARISON:
Left is original. Second is an example of a fake. Third is the same badge as center, but manufactured and sold as copies for reenactors.
The comparison is self-explanatory.
Do take note that there are many different types of Aurich fake out there.
ARMY EMBLEM:
Left is original. Second is fake. Third is what the center image reminds me whenever I looked at them.
The Aurich eagle is a magnificent bird; the fake is a Pinocchio.
Aurich talons are always aligned as indicated by the green line; the fake is very lacking and could sometimes come in different alignment as below.
SWASTIKA:
Left is original. Right is fake. The swastika lower arm on the real Aurich is only slightly touching the turret roof; the fake has a huge blob connecting to the turret roof.
REAR:
The beak area has an inherent flaw in the form of a "chip".
The hinge system is the standard issue for Aurich.
Do take note that having the same hinge system can be a fake too, but having any other types of hinge system is confirm a fake. See below.
The Aurich rear is slightly concaved and has cast lines in a sunburst pattern.
If a total flatback is encountered, it's a no-go.
Not sure if the image helped to illustrate what I am trying to convey.
Never take the plunge without viewing reasonably-focused, good-resolution and straight-view images.
Happy hunting,
