Hi Jamie!
It reminds me a bit of a Juncker cross, not sure but can be. Hope this helps you a little.
Best regards
Martin
Hi Martin
Thank you, that was one of my thoughts too.
Then a friend who collects Combat badges said the setup reminded him of L/57 Boerger.
So I did a search, and hey presto...
Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse ohne Schwertern. Authentic?
Surely one of the same I think
Best
Jamie
Hi Jamie!
Haha..yeah there you see.
The cross you are showing looks much more credible than the cross that is in the other thread so it could very well be a Boerger cross and not a fake cross so I thought then.
Do you know what base metal the cross is made of?
Best regards
Martin
I think it is zinc, certainly by the look of it.
I have received some more photos from the seller. They are better than the original photos I had but I still have my doubts.
In many of the images here, especially number 2, the cuts marks to the metal are suspiciously like the swords have been removed
I must say that I become doubtful again when I see the design on the pin on the new image of the back if this reality is an original cross.
Best regards
Martin
wonder why any one would remove the swords? worth more with them, no?
Um
The one with swords is a different unique medal to the one without swords.
To quote Wikipedia
“ The award had two variants: with swords given to soldiers for exceptional service "not in direct connection with combat", and without swords given to civilians for meritorious service in "furtherance of the war effort".”
the number of first class KVK without swords rendered was around 100,000 while with swords was around 500,000 (pp302 For Fuhrer and Fatherland, LTC John Agolia).
I'm with you as to why anyone would remove the swords! first class with or without swords command a similar value.
