Anfang 1942 sollte das Bataillon mit Kriegsgefangenen ausgestattet werden. Dieser Befehl zur Umgliederung wurde im April 1942 widerrufen. Im Sommer 1942 unterstand das Bataillon der 4. Panzerarmee. Am 19. August 1943 wurde das Bataillon in Baupionier-Bataillon 246 umbenannt. Im August 1944 wurde das Bataillon in der Südukraine vernichtet. Danach wurde das Bataillon offiziell aufgelöst.

Hi Nick, they would have been Soviet POW's. They would have been put to work doing heavy manual labour, road building, fortification work etc, etc, under German supervision.

Speaking of Sovier PoWs/Hiwis, im getting two nice pics in showing a few Hiwis heliping out the Germans. Both pics show them entering a section of some town one pic shows them moving past some burning structures. Ill get these posted sometime in the near future.
