"In all my years as a soldier, I have never seen men fight so hard." - SS Obergruppenfuhrer Wilhelm Bittrich - Arnhem
Yep, a good one for me too. Julius BAUER & Sohne of Zella-Mehlis which is in the Thuringiawald ,South-West of Erfut so it was in the DDR but close to the Inner German Border with BRD until the wall came down. The weapon manufacturers Walther Arms and JG Anschutz (every male of a certain age in UK remembers the Anschutz .22 rifle right?) had factories there.
They made these in great numbers but apart from the Infanteriesturmabzeichen little else in the way of TR badges. They didn't have an LDO licence so you will only see these marked 43 or unmarked and I don't believe they made a zinc version just tombak like yours.
A nice example with all the right features for this maker
Regards
Mark
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
Sorry Ralph I thought you said it was ok to post a link to the auction on here
