Order of the Red Star #1529161 was awarded early/mid-1945. . .
Thanks, Bill!
By "awarded early/ mid-1945" do you mean...
1. The award was minted early/ mid 1945...
or
2. The battlefield achievement was carried out by the soldier in early/ mid 1945...
or
3.The soldier was issued his/her Red Star in early/ mid 1945 but the act that was being recognized occured before that...
Door #3, the Red Star was awarded in early/ mid 1945, but the act that was being recognized occurred prior to that time.
Door 1 is correct as well, the star was produced in March 1945 at the Moscow Mint.
So, what did I win?
ALSO A BRAND NEW CAR! ... you can share with Bill
Hmm, convenient, since we live 4300 miles apart...
No comment. . .
I was thinking something along the line of these:
I FINALLY GOT THE RESEARCH BACK ON THIS RED STAR! IT IS MY FAVORITE OUT OF ALL THREE!
This Red Star belonged to Guards Master Sergeant Aleksei Nikolayevich Rybakov. He was a mechanic-driver of a T34 tank in the 149th Independent Security Company of the field headquarters of the 4th Guards Tank Army
He was awarded the Red Star on May 27, 1945.
Here is his citation:
Short, concrete description of the personal combat feat or merits:
Guards Master Sergeant A.N. Rybakov is a mechanic-driver of a T-34/85 in the 149th Independent Security Company. He has been participating in the Great Patriotic War. During the fighting with the German invaders he was wounded. During his period of service he showed himself a disciplined and brave soldier who knows his job very well. Near Petrakuva and Skurkowitz he carried out several complicated combat missions. Using the gun and the tracks of his formidable combat vehicle he killed up to 50 hitlerites and took 21 prisoners, including two officers. Masterfully manoeuvring his tank on May 2, 1945 near the village of Schinkendorff, he evacuated his tank from under fire by Panzerfaust gunners and subsequently killed them, as well as up to 30 attacking enemy infantrymen.
During the most intricate combat situations he does not lose his head, and with all his masterful capabilities he strives to carry out the motherland’s orders.
He deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Star.
Commander of the 149th Independent Security Company
Guards Captain [signed] /Pripishnyak/
May 14, 1945
There was a typo on the record card as it seems the serial number of his Red Star is one digit off (1520161). This was a mistake from the clerk that filled out the record card in 1946. The 4th Guards Tank Army's log file from 1945 confirms that Rybakov received Order of the Red Star #1529161.
AUKE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INCREDIBLE RESEARCH AND QUICK TURNAROUND!!
