    Hello!

I'm a new member to this community, so apologies in advance if I make some technical errors here

I am considering purchasing this order of the red star, which has a low serial number which I believe would have been awarded in 1942. The seller is quite trusted, and he is from Ukraine. My main concerns is whether the serial number has been tooled with, and if the graffiti on the back is genuine and not added on later. I would greatly appreciate any inputs you folks have! By the way, this order is selling for $220 USD.

These are the only two images I have of the order at the moment.

    Thanks,
    Al

The star is original and the small engraving looks old too. When to tell you if it is from 1942 ?

Hello Dom, thank you for your reply! I checked a serial number chart and I saw similar numbers around this date, and if you look at the engraving, it appears to have a "42" written on it, which I assume is the year of awarding.

Yes I saw the 42 engraved, it is an interesting Order which can reserve a good research.

Very nice …and the price is good too for such a low number

I am no specialist on these, but I do own two original examples. Based on my limited experience, I like this one.

Looks like a nice original. I would only trust the originality of the engraving after research. Could be done by the awardee (year + initials), could also be done by a seller and/or collector to get a better price.

I like it. Have a similar type RS. Veteran scratched his initials onto the back. Name and initials were verified by research. Doesn't really add any monetary value but sure does add a "cool" factor.

Default Since were discussing Red Stars ??????

Not meaning to change current topic but was sailing the "Bay" the other day and came across a Red Star I had concerns about. Keep in mind I'm not an expert in collecting but I had concerns with the serial number and accompanying orders book.

First, the RS number is 407 and it's not hand engraved it's impressed. I would think with a number that low it would be hand engraved? Not stamped or impressed.

Second, the orders book looks contrived. The serial number listed on the awards page looks elementary. It gives the appearance of a person with poor handwriting skills. Something like a child would write.

Now not sure if I can provide the listing number? Still new to the forum and I don't want to violate any rules. If one were to go sailing like I did (looking for orders of Red Star) I'm sure they would find something of interest.

Finally, if I have violated any rules of the forum would someone be kind enough to delete my post an PM to let me know. If all is good... I await opinions of individuals with more knowledge than I have.

    Thanks!
