I imagine if had been well advertised or in a European auction house, it would have brough considerably more. I know one person who is livid he did not know about the auction. He could have easily outbid the dealer consortium that bought it.
By the way, it was purchased for resale and we will see what it is really worth when it hits the public offering. I would imagine it will go to Russia where collectors value these things much more than Americans or Europeans.

Now that's one heck of a 401k
I was going to buy it but it went a little over the $500.00 I had put back for it.
Hello,
In the nineties in Brighton, i met an old english collector who told me that back in the seventies, he sold a Luftwaffe Generalfeldmarschall Baton to an american collector for $171,000
Thanks

I had been looking for this for some time, wondering if it were in someone's private collection or in a museum. Being a 4th cousin to the Field Marshall I have often tried to ferret out information about him and his time in Spandau and his service. I am glad to see that people actually value historical items of this sort, wish I had the kind of coin required to obtain the Baton. It is indeed a beautiful piece of history. Happy to be a member of this site. I may not be able to afford such artwork but at least now I know what it looks like.
