Hugo Stiglitz Uniform questions.

Greetings, looking for some info on the uniform of Hugo Stiglitz form Inglourious Basterds.I'm not finding much info with a Google search so I thought I would come to the experts.
What rank would he be based on his uniform?
What uniform did they base his costume off of?
Can you recognize which belt buckle they went with?
I am trying to find reference photos and nothing seems to line up with all the conflicting stories that I am finding else where.

1 Pip on the Shoulder Strap is a Feldwebel (the equivalent in most Armies of approximately Sergeant Rank). The White edging on the Shoulder Strap represents the Infantry Branch.
The Tunic itself is a copy of an M36 modified M40.

I can't get a clear picture of it but does anyone know what type of knife he had in his boot? I know the bar scene one but this is a different one.
