I am curious about any opinions the members may have on my M36 Mantel which I purchased about 1984 from a German seller. There was a small batch of these found in the early 80s. He stated these were used in the early 1950s by the Bundesgrenzschutz. There was speculation among collectors that soon after the war, original wartime garments were used by the fledgling West German boarder guards. I cannot find any differences from known M36 greatcoats. It seems odd to me that the new government would reproduce the more complex well tailored M36 when they could have made the more simple M40 mantel. I wonder if this is actually a WWII Mantel re-issued in the early 50s. There are two kinds of buttons that are hard to read.
