Yes SA one would have brown backing.

So my best guess via research is, that your ehrenwinkel is an ehrenwinkel for former Stahlhelm members in the SS, from when the SS changed to erdgrau uniforms in 1936 to when it was replaced with SS ehrenwinkel in 1942.

Also, Ehrenwinkels, to my knowledge, was for SA and SS only.

I'm stumped that there are'nt more of them out there, seems to be quite a uncommon patch.

I really love the look of it either!
Especially because its a real Eyecatcher between my other chevrons.
