Yes Ben, you are right. I tried to study this issue, but very little information. Ulbricht exactly cooperated with Assmann, here is a photo with WA, I hope they are not offended. Maybe Assmann helped to execute the order or provided a stamp...???

Zep, maybe Assmann aided then to getting a RZM contract?

Are there other known makers who bought their buckles from Assmann?
You will find probably quite a few Kenny, and Overhoff, even maybe ST&L. Some firms bought buckles from other companies and put their own marks on etc just to win contracts. Bigger firms had the dies etc so rather than go to the expense of having their own made they bought and used buckles from the bigger firms, used these on demo boards to win contracts then never went into buckle manufacturing but diversed off into some else that maybe did not need much set up costs (example pressing machines etc)

Kenny, this is an interesting thread to read about the initial organisation of the RZM

Full M4 designation is: Heinrich Ulbrichts Witwe, Wien
Witwe = Widow - so perhaps special consideration and efforts given this circumstance?

Excellent find zeppelin, a nice looking mint buckle.
