    Hello colleagues. a collector offers my friend a bayonet-knife with the badge "Student Bund",
    the badge on the handle dangles like the original (possibly on the antennae). I would like to know your opinion on this matter. I will be grateful to everyone.

    You have an authentic KS98 dress bayonet, but the insignia on the grip was not fitted at Anton Wingen jr. The grip has been cut to fit the diamond and the marks on the rivets indicates it was retro fitted, I would think most likely in the post war period.

    Hi Peter,
    just for my own understanding as these are not in my main area of study;
    It seems clear that the rivits are hand fitted rather than by machine in a factory but is the issue with the diamond that the recess has been cut into the grip post manufacture (clearly seen) when an original piece would have the recess moulded into it during manufacture?

    The latter makes most sense to me from a manufacturing viewpoint but just wanted to clarify it.

    The National Socialist League of German Students never had a authorized or commercially made knife let alone a military parade bayonet. These diamonds usually turn up on HJ knives that have been denazified post war. So the diamonds are always post war additions. As is this one above.

    Haha,

    Thanks for that. So, it's a moot point that the fitting of the diamond doesn't look like a factory job

    One of the least convincing examples of this type of fake that I've seen (IMO). Sadly, an otherwise OK dress bayonet was sacrificed to create it. Best Regards, Fred
