Hello, I bought this case without a bayonet because it is in good condition and there is no rust on it, it is still with its original oxidation.
I wonder why this hole was made in it?
I apologize for the bad English.

Hello,
the hole is not official. Somebody drilled a hole in it after 1945.

Hello,
Since I didn't drill it in, I can't answer it for you. I just know it doesn't belong there.
Regards
Assuming it was formerly paired with a bayonet, the hole may have been used for display purposes, such as for wall hanging. But that's just a guess.
It could be for wall haenging attachement.
A bit of a clumsy way to display a scabbard by drilling a hole through it. A wire loop or even plastic cable tie might have been preferable.
The hole is made so that a bolt can be screwed into it

I suppose there are endless reasons as to why someone put a threaded hole into the hook.
Possibly to attach something to the bayonet for display or utility. It is a small mystery and we’ll probably never know.
