    Hello everyone,
I recently bought this German knot and need your help in further identifying it...
Is this a German sword portepee or a bayonet troddel, which war/period and for which regiment?
It was sold as a ww1 sword knot but I was under the impression this style was later.

    Thanks for looking.
Please disregard the arm band, it just happened to arrive the same day.

    Cheers
    Corey

It's not WW1 but consistent with Third Reich era, looks authentic. It is a bayonet troddel and if the stengel (stalk) is a pale faded yellow it is for kompanie 10 (III Bataillon) also known as kompanie 2, III Bataillon.
If the stengel is a dirty white then it's for kompanie 2, 1st Bataillon.

    Hi,

this is an Extra-Knot (2nd company or battery), i.e. a privately purchased piece for the dress uniform. These accounts were worn on the dress bayonets.

This model is from 1928 with the closed tassel.

Ok, so your saying as early as that, transitional period.
    For say a K98?
Thank you for taking the time to comment.
If so it will fit nicely with some other transitional items I have.

    Cheers

    Hi,

i don't know exactly what you mean

This model was introduced and worn from 1928.
So from 1928 to 1945. It was not limited to a short transition period.

    The K98 was a firearm.

There was never a bayonet K98 or 98K. This model is called the "Seitengewehr 84/98". It was an independent development from 1915 and had nothing to do with the K98k, which was introduced in 1935.
The S84/98 also fit other models.

This tassel only fits on an walking out bayonet anyway.

    just like here:

Sorry, I was meant to say for a K98 bayonet as in for a bayonet that fits a K98.

From your year of 1928 I used the word transitional to mean used between ww1 and ww2 as well as during.
Sorry for my Kiwi lingo. I'm not up with the play but keen to learn.
Thank you for your detailed information, its very helpful.

    Cheers
