Vet (father) bring back k98 Engraved Dress Bayonet.
Here is a dress k98 bayonet that my father brought back with him from WWII in 1946.
It has been in our household forever.
I even remember bringing it to school for show and tell in 5th grade in about 1970.
It should be legit.
I apologize on the photo quality
The frog has very little wear and no markings and is black leather.
The scabbard / sheath has scratches.
The green felt in the slot looks like new.
The leather washer at the base of the blade by the handle looks like new.
It appears that it has never been sharpened after leaving the mfg.
No noticable nicks in the blade.
Very very light "smudge" (for the lack of a better word) along the side of the blade on a high part, from being moved in and out of sheath.

Re: Vet (father) bring back k98 Engraved Dress Bayonet.
Very nice piece. These would never have been sharpened
or have had an edge. A kid wouldn't be able to take
one of these to school for S&T today.........!

This is pretty much the typical or 'standard' motto found
on these, though the trumpeter is one I've never
encountered before.........

Re: Vet (father) bring back k98 Engraved Dress Bayonet.
Speaking of units and or divisions, I hear from a few searches on the web that there are some with the soldier in a different pose. Ones I have personally seen have a soldier walking down a road and they say that is the infantry. There was one other but I cannot remember which pose was there. I was wondering if my soldier may mean a specialized unit or branch etc. I have not seen any others with the same pose.
I got a lot of info from these sites:
