There are literally examples of high ticket items, on this very forum, that were once considered authentic by the collector community, only for an astute collector to eventually discover the fact that they are fake. After countless collectors, who did do their homework, spend thousands on them. The German Helmets with the fake Italian made decals on this forum come to mind. No one knows, who the italian faker was, only that a number of decals seem to have come from that area decades ago. That individual could have also just been making reproductions for the local market at the time, who knows. Maybe in 30 years, when this forum is gone, someone will be looking at these rings, wondering how these copies made it onto the market. There is nothing morally wrong about making copies, but to say people are fools for buying a fake high ticket item, is a bit short sighted in a hobby where on occasion fake items have literally been considered authentic by "experts".

The Himmler signature alone is a dead giveaway on the ring being a repro.
