Has anyone contacted the Berlin Document Center for copies of service records?

I've found a list of SS officers in some PDF (there are two men named "Koch"; Hermann and Johannes), but I'm struggling to find out how to acquire copies.

The BDC closed many years ago.

I did a lot of research there in the good old days.

I believe it is now part of the Bundesarchiv.

You need to get yourself a reprint copy of the 'Dienstaltersliste der SS der NSDAP', which lists all the SS officers named Koch.

You'll find a copy somewhere on eBay, Amazon etc.

That's a good enough pic to see the bottom line defect just inside the triangle; at the apex you'll see the "central band" surface peeking through--looks like a pigskin football (USA). Same at the 2 arrows of the double runes in post #42. The magnify app is hard to steady at high mag but you can still see these details. The cat's meow is a USB microscope--only $30-40 at Amazon.

Any progress on your engraving yet? Lots of examples in the archives here to see what authentic tooling looks like.

Vibmon: I tried with the engraving, but got ticked at the phone/camera and posted what I had. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for posting the tip about the USB microscope.

Robin: well shucks (you've actually been there? nice.) I wrote the German and U.S. national archives today. We'll see how that pans out. I'll get a copy of that book you reference, or at least try to.

I'm not suggesting you should buy this DAL group (it's a wee bit expensive !!) but this is what you are after.

Most, or all, of the officers named Koch should be in here somewhere.

The only problem is that any NCOs and men called Koch who qualified for the ring by reason of low service numbers, GPB entitlement etc. will not be included.

I need to find someone in Texas that owns copies of those books.

Best I could get on the inside.

The engraving (to me) looks silver on the inside near the top and then seems darker near the bottom. I don't know what that means, but just sharing since the image is bunk.
