Cloth insignia

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask a few questions about cloth insignia one of them being armbands. When it comes to armbands there are many different versions of them from pre-war to early and late war. My question is how you would know if the armband is pre/early/late war. I see many with different types of stitching on websites. Some of which say they have been resized during that time period. what does that mean? I also found a few good research books by Brain L. Davis and Ian WestWell.

I think rather than think of the term 'war' think 'petiod 1933 45'. In that case you could put the multi construction types into the early/mid period, Bevo mid & printed type, late, this is regards to the humble party armband
