A photo without flash ....
If you do a little research you will find some original shields that look like yours..(almost)
It could have been washed or something because it is discoloured..
It can not be original used tunic removed it will be the first ever found... and the black side's would be folded over or cut to size..
Here's an example in wear...The discoloration is less important than the type of Weave employed, and the irregularities along the reverse edges match the mint, unissued badge posted, nice piece!
Hi there Glen! The picture quality is a bit meh and the insignia has frayed and discoloured. I think this is an original one.
The picture you posted of Gerardus Mooyman shows the first pattern in wear which is not the same.
The other colleague mentions this Dachau type armshield not being found it wear, I have seen it a few times on tunics:
No its not the shield we are talking about.. (the mooiman tunic)
I've seen these kind of tunics and it is my opinion that they are put together after the war because there is no original war time evidence of wear and I have searched in hundreds of photos ( the dutch collaboration collection community speaks of these shields as no proof off wear but original dachau found )
Hi GlennAgain,
Your shield is IMO a original dachau made shield, but I don't think that it is removed from a tunic. Because I cannot see any remains of sticting.
The Mooyman shield is the first pattern shield, not a dachau made example.
kind regards,
Hill
