Re: Sprechen sie Deutsch?
I can't figure out his name, either. It looks like Penic Zapper, but I doubt if that is it.

Re: Sprechen sie Deutsch?
It's a photo of Waffen SS RKT Paul Egger , he is saying schwere Panzer Abteilung , Konigstiger ,
Heavy Panzer Abt , King Tiger.
The photo shows him in the middle and to his left with the binos is Will Fey , the photo is of s.SS Panzer Abteilung 502,
cheers
Paul

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Re: Sprechen sie Deutsch?
For some reason the rank on the photo is Oberleutnant instead of SS Obersturmfuhrer !!

Re: Sprechen sie Deutsch?
Why is the title of this thread, "Do they speak German?"

Re: Sprechen sie Deutsch?
I stand corrected Nice to see we have someone here who understands the German grammer

Re: Sprechen sie Deutsch?
Do not forget "1st Lieutenant and platoon commander..."
Knowledge of German gives the collector a real edge in this material, in fact.
The handwriting here is not of the 1933-1945 era, but appears from the post war era.
Good penmanship was also a sign of being an officer and a gentleman, as well as educated person.
How times have changed, surely.
