IMO, these are fake cast buttons made into a fake cape clasp.

Thanks Ralph, seems like a lot of work to produce 4 buttons!..and 2 cape clasps that would never be excepted by the collecting community. The work is very detailed and of good quality IMO and as I have never come across any others it certainly is not a widespread fake, mass produced as most fakes are usually. The implication of your post is that you also have never seen another which again, for a collector of your experience would be, lets say, unusual?..not to have seen similiar fakes? Great to have your opinion and duly noted that you dont like it! Thanks very much.

Guess if its never been featured in the accessories catologues of the time, which I have never seen, suggests that you might be right though Ralph....certaiinly havent checked all available outlets from the period, only catologues I have come across.

If you are at all familiar with the construction of items like these, I would suggest that you would not likely find all of these markings on the reverse.
I would also think that since these are one piece construction, as can be seen from the reverse, they are cast.
Since you can see from the one photo, they are out of round, this suggests that they are made from something soft, like lead, and have been deformed.
It is quite normal as of late to find items like this coming out of eastern bloc countries with excessive markings, and made from lead.
Also, with the skull on the front, these would most likely only be aimed Totenkopf personnel.
I will post other images of what I would expect to see regarding these in another post.
Here is an image taken from the 1940 SS catalogue showing what was available.

Again, thanks so much for the input Ralph, much apprecited...all your points are noted and very valid concerns. Have handled lead cast badges before and this doesnt feel the same, primarily its not heavy enough for lead and doesnt mark or deform like a similarly thin lead casting would but its origins would appear to be very suspect.

This type of setup (with non-detachable buttons) would not be for the cape, rather for the short mess dress jacket, engaging with buttonholes.
As for originality, I’ll leave that to the specialists..

what you have exactly ,are bad copies linked by a chain that do not even come close to original SS cap buttons that they pretend to imitate.
