It looks to me like some sort of collar tab, but none that I have ever seen before. It looks custom made...mabye by the soldier himself?

It is not a standard tab by any means. In "buy the object not the story" terms, it is not something I would collect, unless I had a picture in wear, or a solid provenance.
I also wouldn't expect the litzen on a field made runic tab.

This is not an SS tab. But I can not prove it is not a field made wartime item. Black light it and burn some thread. It is really just a curiosity at this point.

It's so obviousn both SS runes are just sewed with the same banner as on the end of the tab.

Chris, I think he's saying that the runes were made with the same materal as the trim on the left side. Basically that they cut down pieces to make the runes.
