Re: waffen ss tunic dodgy at best
I would have one concern about using regular straight pins if there is any kind of moisture / humidity in the air it may leave a little dark mark and or rust staining were the pins are exposed to the air and then touching the material I am positive you can purchase them made from stainless steel.

I have lightly put pins in the board
.. as you will see in photo but more so in hand the boards fits pertfict with no room to move ever side ... in hand shows the same were pattern to were they were placed togeather ... all so what i my self like to look for is the roundly shape (not flat) my qustion is should i have some one with sewing skills sew it back in or leave well a lone for Future Reference ,
Hawkins,
You have a unique opportunity to restore this tunic and IMHO as long as you can do it properly, I cannot understand why you would want to leave it in it's present "unfinished" condition.
This is just my personal opinion of course - if it was mine- I would not be able to rest until I had put it back into as complete a positon as possible.
Just my 2 cents.

Yes the reason i am in two minds .. is i dont want to be accused of adding the boards when they are 100% origanil to the tunic .. and only pulled out because of the guy putting it on and the way the auction house was handiling it was APPALLING and they were the cause of the last treads holding them in to snap , but the more i look at the more i think i can sew them in with out degrading it

Hawkins,
If you can put it back to the way that it should be then I do not think that you could be accused of anthing negative.
There seems to be a constant quest amongst SS collectors' in particular for the "untouched" unaltered tunic which is the new "Holy Grail" of collecting but you have to have some perspective here as collecting genuine SS apparel is expensive and difficult enough without beating yourself up over the re attaching of some shoulder straps, especially as they were original to the tunic in the first place.
Also, just to contrast the point, if you were buying this item from a dealer, do you think that they would tell you automatically that the straps had been re sewn?
Remember, collecting is supposed to be FUN !!
