Z. I would say the buckle is original, as to the tab may have been put on at some point. I do not understand why they would put a leather support tab a non combatant buckle when the purpose of the support tab is for the ammo pouch. Might have been done period and put on but cannot prove it (if all that makes sense)

Thank you, Markus
Hello, this buckle is clearly a good one of the early manufacture, nickel silver box and medaillon, brass claw, ww1 period i would say
Concerning the presence of the leather tab, it can be interesting to know that the belt equipment of the men was a big leather pouch, much bigger than a cartridge pouch which was used to carry the first aid medical equipment
In fact, the leather tab is certainly period, but i do not like the marking on it, i think it has been added to "enhance" the buckle, which is very stupid and does exactly the contrary to a well documented collector
So just to confirm medics would have worn a pouch on the belt also?
Cheers
Ben
Is this it?
