    What a great design!!!
In the book 'Deutschland Erwache' by Ulrich it is mentioned that this plaque as well as its smaller counterpart was designed by none other than Otto Gahr. Interestingly enough Gahr never mass produced any of those. Majority were made by Hoffstaetter of Bonn (pin backs, miniatures and plaques) with Assmann picking up the slack on the the pins.
While no serious attempts have been made to fake the plaques as pictured above, fairly decent cast copies of the pin backs and even better of miniatures surface from time to time.
Wonderful award David, one of my favourites as well. Congrats on a great acquisition!

    cheers

    Matt,
think I read that Hitler had a hand in the design of these badges as well.
