Hello Ian, so doing some research in to these badges across various websites I agree with Reinhard on his conclusion that this is one of the type of fakes that is being sold by various dealers as original.

It seems that this particular fake has undergone some transformation during it's production period presumably by the manufacturers reading the forums and discovering their errors and correcting them.

Under is a similar badge that was condemned.

After careful examination, I agree with Reinhard2 and Saladin. It is a very well-made Fake. For me, the decisive factor is that the back of the oak leaf wreath is not tinted deep black, as is usual with original pieces. With original pieces, it looks as if the back of the oak leaf wreath is painted black or even enameled. This is obviously not the case with the two questionable pieces. In addition, the dates are very strange, especially the varnish around the numbers looks somehow strange.
