My friend Gary sent me these photos and asked for help with this buckle. The notch on the side makes me believe it is pre WWI. Searching Auer I found a German Industrial firm called Auergesellschaft. This was formed in 1892 and lasted till the end of WWII. They were involved in the production of uranium and the Russian took most of the employees to work on their A Bomb program. Any other ideas of what this buckle might have been used for. Thanks for any help.

    Auer Gesellschaft Aktiengesellschaft Werke Oranienburg.

Any Forum member with a specialised knowledge of gas masks will hopefully be able to provide more information.

The buckle displays the non military logo for the company and I am suggesting rightly or wrongly, that the buckle could have been worn by factory guards among others.

    Regards and best wishes,

Auer is still involved in the gas detection industry today.

I would agree with David and say that my first thought would be factory security also.

Thanks for the photo David. I would also believe it is for Security Force. Thank for any other input.

You may have seen one but I couldn't find it on WAF. I thought I had seen the buckle somewhere but I may have just seen the trademark on a different item.

Identified fully and completely chaps on the WRF, without having to refer to WAF?

    Regards and best wishes,

    David
