    Hello all,

I believe what I have is an m1847 buckle (Prussia, of course) but I'm looking for further details. I only way I've understood the brass feature of the buckle itself, is because it is Eigentumstueck (private purchase).

I noticed some Imperial buckles have "notches" cut into the sides - others are rounded - is this stylistic? Does it serve as a way to date certain variations to us collectors? Below is an example of what I'm trying to describe.

    Hello,
    We're talking about the M1847 (M48) in size 50 x 65 mm, right?
The so-called "M47 or M48" manufactured from 1848 to 1895, still worn by the Landwehr until 1918
The hook (on the belt) has a width of 54 mm and protrudes on the sides. The lock has a corresponding recess.
Disadvantage: not every strap fits every lock! If the hook is too far inside, the hook cannot be latched because it hits the outer wall of the buckle
The recesses in the buckle were used to attach the belt hook. See picture.
