This belt was originally a cavalry Säbelkoppel and as Herveparis indicates, was reworked at some point, having the attached sword strap removed and the keeper changed to the pattern for the box buckle. So, I don't find it out of the question, that upon repair it was reissued with a Prussian buckle. The original buckle would have been an open faced, brass mounted troops buckle anyway.

Many thanks for that, appreciated. I love belts and buckles with a bit of wear and use, much more interesting to me...
I'm not sure what the mounted troops buckle would look like, any pics???
