Article about: So, they've started to appear on the market. 'Last I read was that 9,000 had been ordered/supplied to the BA and I saw my first one for sale on eBay a week or so ago. The complete set (helme

One advantage I have found about 'lockdown', is being to strike some really good bargains with dealers who relied very much on the arms fairs for the bulk of their sales. Realistically, the next arms fair which has a reasonable chance of being held in my neck of the woods is the Preston Arms fair - actually held at Park hall, Charnock Richard. This is due to be held in September, and hopefully it will go ahead.

Yet again, public demand has been such that my personal security has felt threatened unless I update the data. But these things can't be just thrown together...oh no. Data sources have to be located, statistics captured and analysed and results checked and doubled checked. This can all take years but.....oh what the hell...it's GONE UP!

...and 2020 was the year when Swiss mathematicians working closely alongside me and my Casio predicted they'd be virtually free at this years War and Peace show.......that's the Swiss for you....

Well, Statto (you have to be a Brit and a certain age for that one) is out of retirement and has crunched the virus-covered numbers to bring you the latest refresh in the ongoing "How much?" debate. I hope that this injection of positivity ('geddit?) can be a shot in the arm (I'm here all week) and will prick (c'mon...I'm trying) any bubbles of doubt, around market pricing. So, as we storm into Virtus' 6th year, has there been any astronomical (could've done an Astrazeneca reference there) shift?

...and there you have it! The shocking news that during a global pandemic the price of a piece of plastic can go up as well as down. I'm not sure if these will be in boxes for a tenner at the W&P Show this year...but if they are sat in a field in Kent I fear they're gonna be terribly lonely.......

Good grief. The thing that surprises me most is that it is now SIX years since these were introduced. Seems like yesterday.

I've only ever seen one in the plastic on two occasions, and I doubt there'll be one occupying my floorspace until they get down to around £120 (post free...). But it *is* an interesting helmet.

    Hello

I win two bids on ebay last week on Batlskin Cobra helmets : the first 141£ but the seller won't send it to France (maybe the price was to low for him grrrr!) and the second 180£ (I've got his one :-)

    best regards,
    Jean Loup

So the longest running helmet price tracker continues......

    £322 (Aug '17)
    £301.93 (Nov '17)
    £317.27 (Dec '17)
    £242.11 (Feb'18)
    £233 (Apr '18)
    £199 (Aug '18)
    £154.92 (Jan '19)
    £110.66 (Dec '19)
    £178.00 (Feb '20)
    £164.70 (May '20) (£112 lowest, £250 highest)
    £224.44 (Oct '20) (£150 lowest, £290 highest)
    £205.39 (Feb '21) (£150 lowest, £299.95 highest)
£167.23 (Sep '21) (£60 lowest, £315 highest [complete with visor, mandible etc])

...so is this the second price crash?....I suspect it's more about the market becoming flooded with "surplus" items. They're now openly sold at some UK Fairs and are all over Ebay. Perhaps it won't be long before we have a Mk9...even though we haven't actually had a Mk8 yet!

    Six years of "research" ...SIX YEARS!.....and still going...but does anyone GAFF....I don't care - I'M interested! ;-)

This is possibly the only life-long (the helmet? or mine?) review of how market pricing (according to one large online retailer) changes over time..with the ultimate aim of monitoring it into the period of the next generation of Infantry helmet, presumably called the "Mk9", or the "Not-Virtus" or "The-one-after-the-one-which-wasn't-called-the-Mk8"....

..WOW!!.....an almost 100% increase! the Ukraine Effect possibly?

..and it was all going so well to hit those £10 bins at the War & Peace Show....oh....errrr...the helmet has outlasted the Show! Doh!

I shall continue my research whilst completing my forthcoming book "Composite Helmets and Market Prices - a study no-one's interested in" ;-)

I've been thinking...and I'm now wondering if pages and pages of technical data is swamping the senses of my audience. To assist, and after literally minutes of further analysis, I've endeavoured to translate the detailed data from 6 years into a graphic representation (below). In an effort to provide a summary of many years detailed research I'm drafting a "Conclusion" section for my Pulitzer submission....... "market pricing has gone up and down over the period of review"
