Great example and thanks for sharing ,i like the green leather liner reinforcements /comfort sections which give a far more refined appearance to this trials model over the production model what a shame little details like this were dropped

Yes, that's right. A lot of fine details and much more expensive to manufacture. That was certainly the main reason to simplify it in series production.

wasn't the early steel cover fitted with crossed strips in the early days too?

I think your correct Adrian it did if memory serves the steel pots had an S prefix ink mark stamp followed by the size and the Gefectshelm covers had the G prefix followed by the cover size

could you post pics of the lacing and the lower rim of the helmet cover?
So far it looks more like a self-made helmet cover to me... i.e. neither a StoV production nor an official trial model. The various trial models are known so far.
