At the very beginning, a small number of converted helmets were delivered at short notice by the manufacturer Schuberth. They were painted on the outside in UN blue RAL 5012 and provided with UN decals. These helmets were only purchased once in this version and are now very rare to find. For reasons of camouflage, some soldiers in Somalia also put dark spots on these helmets.
This helmet was worn by a paratrooper in a security company of the 1st contingent.
All helmets that I know of that have been reworked in UN blue (I have only seen three originals so far) are from Schuberth from 1992. This one has lot number 07.
Otherwise, helmets in RAL 6014 with a UN cover were worn in the German Somalia Support Association.

Schuberth then also supplied UN-version helmets for the Netherlands. However, these are very easy to distinguish. German helmets are painted UN blue on the outside and yellow olive on the inside with the German manufacturer's stamp and supply number. They have screws painted on the outside. The front UN decal is square. Dutch helmets are completely UN blue, have a different manufacturer's stamp and black screws. The front UN decal is round.
