Love the Iraqi Tank helmet Douglas i picked one of these up recently which is also Hungarian in origin ,mine has sun bleaching like yours and a triangular marking remnant on the front brow pad so perhaps a unit marking of some sort .I notice yours is marked HCL as mine is but some are marked HCZ for some reason which i would like to further research one day .
I might as well add my Chinese Tank helmet used by the Iraqi Army and my Israeli Tank Helmet from the early 1970's to the thread

If contractors then they're likely to just be commercial 'scalp protectors'. H&S dictates headgear is required but no ballistic protection needed!
