It does appear the eagle has been attached to the langet rather than cast as part of the guard. This did occur in the early days of the Third Reich the manufacturing companies were not tooled up and producing TR swords. Initially the Political eagle was attached in a separately made piece. Can't comment on authenticity of this particular sword as the photo image is not good enough.
Had this HOLLER panther head in hand at the SOS. It is not a pinned-on variety like the more commonly seen WKC pinned on silver eagle. This one has the eagle silvered directly on the cast eagle on the hilt. This was an option just like an etched blade, as an upcharge. R. HERDER for one offered this embellishment on several of their swords. A neat and fairly rare sword, not often encountered, but not worth near as much as W. Kanzler was asking for it, IMO.
I would seriously overthink anything twice before buying his items. He has sold -knowingly- the most shady stuff over the years.
An interesting sword, there are times when you have to pass on some blades because of the unwanted "baggage" that comes with it. And if you knowingly over-pay sometimes it can take a lot of years before it reaches the level an item should have sold for. Also posted is an image that I think provides a little better look at the Eagle on the sword's knuckle bow. Best Regards, Fred
That photo can only serve to give you nightmares Ger, very unsettling
Haha two of the collector leaders within the community. I wonder which third leader made the picture.
Also: Still waiting for the collector to show his newly purchased Reinhard Heydrich plate on this forum
Amazes me that the SOS let him set up when he has been convicted from stealing from the German National achieves in Berlin
