Default Damascus IOD89 presented to Leutnant Vieth in 1915

This is an Eickhorn damascus sword and i most admitt that these pics absolutely do it no justice, in hand this damast pattern comes to life and shows its true beauty!
Its presented to leutnant Vieth in Kriegsjahr 1915, it has gilded raised letters and logo.

After i received it i had to find out about this Vieth, this is what i found out.

Damast IOD 89 presented to Leutnant Vieth (Lt der Reserve) in 1915
He died on +18-04-1918 on the belgium battlefield of flandern being a Hauptmann of the 3. Eisenbahn regiment.
Vieth served in the Pruissian Armee during the great war of 1914-1918.
I have bought a vintage book about the chronicals of the 5.Lothringisches IR 144 published in 1928 to try to find out more about this leutnant Vieth.
I was thrilled to find him on the rank list of nov. 1915 on page 140 of this book.
This sword was presented to him by the 4. Kompanie der 5.Lothringisches IR 144 as a memorial to his Kompanie when he got the command of the 8. Kompanie of the 5. Lothr.IR144 ( listed on 08 nov 1915)
He fought on the Verdun front, on both sides of the Meuse and also on the Argonne battlefields, so he realy was a veteran served in the hell of Verdun, surviving 3 years in that hell is a miracle, over 1.2 million died on the Verdun battlefield.
Its a pity that he died on april the 18th on the Flandern battlefield having the command of the 3th Reg. Of the Eisenbahn.
    He served in following Regiments: IR144, IR135, IR459, IR469

I will try to make better pics in the future, i hope for now they do.
    Regards
    Ger
