For those interested a little more on the story, a page from Angolia's 1971 "Daggers, Bayonets & Fighting knives of Hitler's Germany".

The Mention of Atwood suggests Muller found himself a new patron after Himmler.
Spot on. Something that was confirmed in Tom Wittmann's SS book with correspondence from Müller to Tom Johnson. Among some other things discussed was the fact that Müller mentioned making four "SS Protoype" daggers while Tom Wittmann acknowledges that they are the "tip of the iceberg" because that number is exceeded by those known to be in collections. Some additional details regarding Müller emerging from a different published source, I've also had conversations with an older gentleman who was one of Atwood's sub-distributors - who had nothing good to say about him as he had also been a victim of Atwood's fakes. Best Regards, Fred

I always stay away from those PDM marked blades.
A lot of PM work has been achieved post war, he just kept on working.
Fact is, who can tell how many "prototypes" he designed postwar to forfill the demand after WW2?
IMO the PDM dachau work was poorly done comparing it with the beautiful Krebs degens which i owned 4 in the past.
The guard of a PDM marked degen will just be chrome plated, and as Fred clearly showed has lifting.
If not then please just clean the dirt and show us a detailed Picture.

    Cheers
    Ger

The D guard is non magnetic (white metal), so I don't think it is corrosion. I did not to get to cleaning it as a potential buyer doesn't want it further altered.

If its not chrome plated then the guard will be made of nickel-silver.
