Hi Hummel, Thank you for your kind comments and I am glad that you and others have enjoyed the post and photographs. I can not really answer your question as I like different swords for different reasons. On some it is the blade etch, some it is the style of hilt, some it is the pattern of sword and so it goes on. A fair bet of my current favorite would be the next sword that I go after!! Sorry for such a convoluted answer but fickle is my middle name.
Thank you once again!! Michael

Hi Colt 45, Thank you for your comment on this post, glad you liked it. In answer to your question, on standard run of the mill swords I would think and hope that the figure, compared with other German militaria, is relatively low at least I hope that it is!! I would suggest that post war embellishment is more likely than reproduction. Unless, of course, you start looking at the upper/top end of the sword market when the value and rarety of the sword makes reproduction viable and profitable for those who seek to wreck our hobby?? I have one or two, hopefully no more, swords that cause a bit of doubt in me but hay ho, we all get caught occasionally!!
Cheers Michael

Hi Stingray, Thank you for your comments, glad you liked the post. Nice or even good collection perhaps but fantastic? I would not claim that title even though years of effort and tellings off from she who must be obeyed have gone into it.
Thanks again stingray and regards Michael

That was a trick question Michael... I would not be able to give an answer and I suspected that you wouldn't either... at least I thought you would never be able to narrow it down to just one! Any first class collection and I have enjoyed studying it. Thank you again for showing.

Hi Fred and Larry, Many thanks for your very kind comments. Yeh, Man Cave!! And that's just half of the ground floor!! If you want to see junk in perfusion, try upstairs!!! Junk, junk and even more junk!! A little story for you both. My daughter works for the police and an incedent report came in regarding a heard of sheep. One of the questions in the report was "Describe the animals concerned" The answer she got was "White and Woolly". I am always a bit worried about feds with a sense of humor.

Hi Ger, Thank you for your kind comments. It is winter over here at the moment so cancel anything alcoholic for a few months and I'll settle for a mug of hot tea. As for man caves, I would love to view yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be the jealous one.

Hi All, A very quick collector beware note. A firm which specialises in reproduction edged weapons and who advertise them as such,I hasten to add, has the following rare German WWII naval sabre for sale. I am not crytisising the firm in any way!!! However, I could quite easily see some annal orifice buying this sword and with a bit of verdigre, a bit of rust and some unfair wear and tear, putting it out as original and I will be the first to admit that at first take, it would fool me!! Ergo, "BUYER BEWARE".
Well, what do you think?? Am I teaching you to suck eggs or could this sword be made, with a little distressing, to fool you????
Cheers MR
