Question: Why would this be like that ?
The Pommel possibly being overtightened ?
and the Portepee accidentally realized it was tied on the wrong side?

Hi Larry,
I think this happened accidentally. And, if the owner of the dagger noticed that, he didn't want to make a new knot because it would be too time-consuming for him. It was easier for him to turn the dagger in the scabbard with the back facing forward.
