Friedrich Orth U-Boot Kriegsabzeichen - is it a cast fake?

this U-Boot Kriegsabzeichen is up for grabs, and it has the appearance of a decent Friedrich Orth manufactured badge, "variation 3".

However on close examination, the catch hook is soldered to a small round plate (none of the original variations seems to have this feature), the "FO" mark is too low for a variation 3, the "O" in "FO" has an odd serif at the top of the letter, and it appears to have casting flaws on the reverse. Is it most likely a cast fake?

It is a fake.
The "serif" on the maker mark is always a giveaway on these reproductions.
