Best way to tell is where each of the arms of the swastika touch the next one. These should come to nice sharp points.

The base metal of the sunwheel swastika should be zinc. The pins holding the runes to it seem to be thicker and longer than those on accepted originals.

Bear in mind that (if memory serves me) less than 200 of these were awarded and less than a quarter are known to exist today. The chances of finding an original are very slim and they have been faked heavily to a good standard.
