Here’s a early quality Naval Coastal Artillery War Badge 1941 I believe it’s a Wernstein piece from the maker mark.

This maker mark represents E. Ferdinand Wiedmann.
Nice badge, still retains most of the gold finish on the wreath.

Thank you Ralph. Merry Christmas. I started going through my Kriegsmarine badges Ferdinand Weidmann. Thank you for the reference and refresher on the maker. I simply forgot the makers logo
Nice Weidmann badge in good condition. One of the two variations of hinge, the other being the 'lily pad' type.

I’ve noticed earlier KM badges hold up well with the golf gilt finish. The zinc badges not so well. Thank you Adrian
This is a zinc badge. Some manufacturers mastered the art, others not so much.

Your astute comment and observation is well received. It’s a lovely piece of work, and I simply assumed it was tombak. The slight bubbling on the reverse is a good indicator that it’s zinc though. Thank you Adrian l appreciate your feedback
Hi Guys,
Sorry to rain on the parade, but unfortunately this is the Staegemeir fake of the Wiedmann Marine Artillery badge. The gilding, the catch and the bend in the main pin are all incorrect and they all have the same fake "bubbling pattern" in the finish reproduced in the same manner on all examples from the same casting mold. Here are two more examples of this type of reproduction.
Best regards,
---Norm
Here are images of an original E. Ferdinand Wiedmann variant A3.5.1 that I have on file for comparison. Note the zinc badge was flash-coated in copper alloy before the finish was applied, leading to excellent preservation of the gilding and silvering.
Thank you for pointing this one out Norm and for highlighting what to look for. It had me fooled for sure.
