Hi Adrian,
Look closely at the colour of the case, is it a very dark blue rather than black? It's just that I've found out that these type of cases were used for the Faithful Service Cross (don't know how many years service for I'm afraid) and were issued in a dark blue case. If you have one of these awards it should be a perfect fit.
Possibly a black case could have been used too, as a differentiation of the years service for the award, but that's purely a guess.
Hard to tell Ned, it looks black but look again and it could be blue! Has anyone seen a Faithful Service cross in an LDO case such as this? I have one in the usual red coloured box.........

Looks like i was wrong Adrian , just thought it looked like an EK2 box
That was my first thought Mark but it just won't fit!

What is the material? Do you think it might have just shrunk with age?
No shrinkage as far as I can tell Mo, the edges of the insert are still a tight fit to the box......

Just a guess, the fire fighter's medal?
Tom
No idea Tom, do these awards come in LDO cartons?

Schinkel EK? Or a police long service medal?
I haven't tried a Schinkel to be fair but I still think the recess would be too small. I'll try it when I get home in the morning.

Re: LDO box.....
It's fairly compelling, has anyone out there got the Angolia book which describes this??
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.

Re: LDO box.....
wow. big ned! that's quite a pull. i would not have expected that, but it certainly looks compelling. i associate that shape with cross-shaped inserts in these LDO boxes and that looks like the case (forgive the unintentional pun) once again!

Re: LDO box.....
Obviously there's no proof the box and cross started life together but the smaller recess gives it a chance!
So has anyone seen another set consisting of an LDO box with an award other than an EK or KVK in it?

Thank you Ned!
The Treue Dienst Ehrenzeichen fits perfectly. Now to buy one without a ribbon........
That look's great!
I've eventually found a linky thing to this award and case in Angolia's book that I was conking on about the other day, check it out:
