Excuse me, how do u see that?
Excuse me, how do u see that?
Yours is a repro of a slanted G type Memel of which there are only 4 known variants deduced by veteran bring backs & photographic evidence. Unfortunatly yours resembles none of them. I suggest you get yourself a copy of The Memel Medal by Antonio Scapini, an exellent reference & I believe a must have for anyone remotely interested in this award, Regards Paul
Hello Jelmer
Paul is correct IMO about your Memel medal being a fake.
If you look at the back of your medal you will see that the last G on the second line slants backwards.
These medals are known as a tilted G example.
There are 4 known accepted original variants that have this 'tilted' G made by the Hauptmunzamt Berlin, One attributed to Forster and Barth and another by the Meybauer firm. The final one is by an unknown maker.
Your medal looks like none of the accepted originals. The details are quite weak and blurred and is more than likely a cast copy of an original medal.
There are lots of examples of original medals and they are not hard to come by. I would leave this one where it is.
All the best
Doug
