thanks Woolgar, is it the ring that makes you suspect it?
Hi Lengies, the ring is reasonably accurate to an original, however it is bad medal i'm afraid the SS placement is off, the leaves lack detail; sorry D:
ok many many thanks both of you. will expect other opinions

yes, it is really a headache
I am not convinced the suspension ring bevelled. The light on pic 4 makes it look that way but look closely at the other pics

This is getting rather controversial!!
I personally see no problems with this medal and would be happy to own it myself. The suspension ring is bevelled correctly IMO and furthermore the fact that it's not exactly in the 12 o'clock position, as is seen on many original medals due to a slight misplacement in the die, is an even more convincing sign it's good.
The hatching on the medal is fine and comment that the runes are offset and the leaves lack detail is completely wrong, they are consistant with original type 2 awards.
I'm frankly bemused at some of the comments here. Lets assume that the suspension ring IS bad. What other single thing can be shown (and proved) to be at fault with this medal? If it were fake there would be more than just that ONE bone of contention, there would be other obvious anomalies, but where are they?
I can't see them, but perhaps i'm having a bad day again....
Regards, Ned.
