What material do you use to clean it? I use toothpaste for metals.
STOP! Please do not use toothpaste. Most toothpaste is slightly abrasive. That is gentle enough not to harm teeth but this medal has a phosphate finish applied to the metal which toothpaste will damage if not remove completely. You will end up with a nice clean and shiny medal but you will destroy the original finish!
If you feel it has contamination that must be removed on the grounds that something like acid grease from fingerpints etc will cause harm over time then you should use nothing more than a mild soap and a soft brush / sponge etc. Do not use harsh chemicals or anything that will abrade the surface
