Sorry I just read about it.
Thank you for correcting.
Hello,
I must admit that I do like this badge. It looks like a tombak Juncker badge that has been polished.
I'd wait for the KM chaps for confirmation.
All the best
Doug
Thank you Doug for this first opinion.
Yes indeed I saw pictures of these badges and apparently there is some gilding on them.
Unfortunately when I got it there were already none ...
I bought it anyway because I found that 'it had a very good quality of finish of the details especially the head of the eagle and then I really paid very little for it
Voilà.
Regards.
Cédrick
I have to think that it is just a well worn and polished tombak Juncker with a missing catch.
Regards,Martin.
Thank you for your comment Martin.
Damn if I had known I would not have bought it for 100 euros . I got ripped off ???
I would like to know how we can tell the difference between tombac and solid brass , the weight ?
According to you this would be a manufacture at the beginning or end of the war ?
Thank you
Tombak is a brass alloy with a high copper content and a small zinc content.
Any tombak award can be considered to be of early wartime production before the transition to zinc production.
I think for 100 euro you got a bargain here, despite the missing catch.
The Juncker U-Boot award is my favorite design of all U-Boot awards.
Despite the condition it's a nice original badge you have.
Cheers,Martin.
Agree with Martin, 100 euros is a definate bargain.
Yes it's true 100 euros is a good deal I had to decide quickly when I was offered I hesitated at the time because there was no marking behind, there was no more gilding and broken .... But what decided me is the quality of the details of the eagle, the submarine...I found it very beautiful .
The guy told me that he had been picked up at the end of the war by his father in Bordeaux in France... true or not I don't know !
