That's brilliant news thanks! I will dig out the proper camera eventually and get a close up of the hinge.

Hi Guys,
I'm afraid this badge isn't looking good. There's a slight concavity or cupping of the reverse surface typically seen on castings and an obvious seam at the mid-point of the margins which again appears from a casting. That seam has been filed down on the exterior margin but was left prominent on the internal cutout areas.
I agree with Martin that the hinge block alone may be genuine (although the block has been cut out to accommodate the wrap-around pin) but even that may have been cast with the badge. A cast reproduction disguised as a repair job.
Best regards,
---Norm
Thanks, I was about to try and sell as an original in a shop. Am I right is saying these were die stamped and never ever cast?
Hi Rich,
Although some late war zinc badges from some makers were die cast, the Deumer zinc U-Boats were indeed all die struck.
Best regards,
---Norm
